Finchat for Funds – FAQs

What is FinChat for super funds?

FinChat for super funds is a voice-powered member engagement tool that helps fund members understand their superannuation, test retirement scenarios, and plan their financial future through natural voice conversations. Members ask questions like “Will I have enough super to retire at 65?” and get instant, personalised answers based on their own balance and contributions. It was built on the same voice technology as FinChat for advisers, finalist in AI Innovator, Wealth Management at the Australian AI Awards 2024.

Who is FinChat for super funds for?

Australian super funds — industry, retail, or corporate — that want to give members meaningful guidance at scale without hiring an army of advisers. It suits funds working to meet their Retirement Income Covenant obligations and those looking to lift member engagement with tools members actually use.

How does it work for members?

Members interact with FinChat through devices they already own — an Alexa speaker at home, the fund’s mobile app, or the fund’s website. They ask questions in plain English: “How much super will I have at 65?” or “Should I make extra contributions?” FinChat uses their actual balance, contributions, and preferences to deliver tailored projections with charts and scenarios they can test themselves — and the conversation continues seamlessly whether they’re in the kitchen or on the train.

How does FinChat help us meet Retirement Income Covenant obligations?

The Retirement Income Covenant requires funds to help members maximise retirement income, manage risk, and access funds flexibly. FinChat gives every member a tool to model drawdown scenarios, test contribution strategies, and understand the impact of retirement age — making the fund’s retirement income strategy visible and actionable to the whole membership, not just the ones who call the advice line.

What advice can FinChat give to our members?

FinChat delivers general advice, intra-fund advice, and educational content — it helps members understand their own position and test scenarios, but doesn’t recommend they switch products. This keeps the tool clearly within the fund’s existing advice framework and doesn’t trigger Statement of Advice requirements. Members who need personal advice are referred to the fund’s advice team or a licensed adviser.

Can FinChat be white-labelled with our fund’s branding?

Yes. FinChat can be deployed with the fund’s colours, logo, voice persona, and domain, so members experience it as the fund’s own tool rather than a third-party product. The underlying projections, compliance framework, and voice engine remain consistent regardless of branding.

How does FinChat integrate with our member portal?

FinChat connects to member data via secure APIs — balance, contributions, investment option, age, preservation components. Members don’t re-enter data, and authentication can flow through your existing single sign-on so members move seamlessly between the portal and FinChat.

Does FinChat reduce call centre load?

Yes. “How much super will I have?” and “Should I add more?” account for a material share of call volume at every super fund. FinChat handles these with personalised projections rather than generic scripts — freeing call centre staff to focus on complex cases and retention rather than repeating the same modelling hundreds of times a day.

How does pricing work at fund scale?

Pricing is available on request and scales with fund membership. Because FinChat runs on cloud infrastructure (AWS) rather than per-seat desktop software licences, the per-member cost is a fraction of traditional advice tools. Contact us at finchat.com.au/contact to discuss pricing for your fund size.

What data does FinChat access?

Only what’s needed for the projection: member balance, contributions, age, preservation components, and investment option. FinChat doesn’t store member data outside the active conversation, and can be deployed inside your existing AWS environment if your security framework requires data residency control.

Can we combine FinChat with other member tools?

Yes. Members who want to go deeper can also access 40+ financial planning calculators via SMFP — covering everything from salary sacrifice to transfer balance cap to the interaction between age pension and account-based pensions. SMFP also offers a white-label calculator suite for funds at smfp.au/public-funds/.

Who’s behind FinChat?

FinChat is built by Steve Manning, a Sydney-based founder with 30+ years in financial services technology. FinChat was a finalist in AI Innovator, Wealth Management at the Australian AI Awards 2024. He also built SMFP, Australia’s most comprehensive self-managed financial planning toolkit — finalist in Innovator of the Year 2025.

How do we see a demo?

Contact us at finchat.com.au/contact to arrange a demo for your fund’s executive team. We can show FinChat running with sample member data and discuss how it would integrate with your existing member experience.
